In 1999, Jonathan Gladding landed on the Caribbean island of Saint Lucia as a Peace Corps volunteer. 20 years later he still calls Saint Lucia home. His paintings are vivid, realist, captures of small village life on the island, most of his subjects native to a picturesque, small fishing village called, Laborie.
We first discovered Jekein after she was featured on Brandon Stanton’s acclaimed Humans of New York Instagram account. She describes herself as a multi-disciplinary artist and while her work captures beautifully everything from daily Nigerian life to African heroes and history, what we love most are her captures of women in their empowered states.
Sinister Monopoly is an artist with an incredible back story. He led a life as one of the country’s biggest drug dealers, was tracked by the Feds for approximately 2 years, was eventually apprehended and convicted, serving a prison sentence of 11 years and 4 months. While serving his time at Terminal Ferry Federal Prison he honed his skill, painting on canvas seven days a week. Now, unbelievably he is quickly being considered the future of pop art.
Vanessa Ayala is a Latina, New York based pop artist. She uses a unique mix of hues including pinks, blues and yellows to bring her subjects to life. Her subjects include celebrities such as Aaliyah and Jennifer Lopez but she also shares commissioned work which include family and individual portraits.
